Looking for X's in All the Wrong Places

Rated X – Reader discretion is advised. It’s called the Lead-O-Matic, or LOM. The LOM solves all those pesky “forward allowance” or lead formulas in shotgunning. Developed during a late pub dinner with Tom Fiumarello, Bob Lockett, Peter Harris, myself and a few friends, this very ingenious device attaches over the front bead on your shotgun. Patent pending, the LOM virtually eliminates all the guesswork about correctly leading a target, REGARDLESS of target speed, angle or distance. Easily attached and with all the necessary vertical and horizontal adjustments, the LOM guarantees the X! The LOM only costs a very reasonable $19.95 (plus S&H charges) but will ...

Looking for X's in All the Wrong Places

There’s an enormous joy found in shotgunning. But, when the missing starts…for some of us…there comes a time when we decide to become more CONSISTENT with our shotgunning. To do that, here are some truths that have a direct bearing on whether we hit the target or not.If you wish, there’s a library full of shooting ballistics you can study, internal, external and terminal. And when you lump all those very relevant ballistic calculations together, their combined importance at the target will pretty much be reduced to zero if precision is compromised.Rifle and handgun shooters learn very quickly what happens when unintended movement occurs: precious accuracy is lost. ...

We already know these targets can be broken…and we aren’t. That we are making errors is obvious. Once the errors are found and corrected, targets begin to break. Predictably. Equally important…when we are breaking targets…are we asking ourselves why the target just broke? Was that X…1) a coincidence or 2) a planned and correctly executed swing? Here’s why I believe we should know if it’s 1) or 2). If it was an ...

Looking for X's in All the Wrong Places

There are set-up basics (pre-shot skills) – swing basics (gun management skills) – and scoring basics (performance skills). All are interlocked, very much dependent on the other in purposely building our Sporting Clays (& Trap & Skeet) game on a platform of dependability and confidence. What follows is a favorite topic of mine, previously discussed multiple times from various perspectives. It cannot be stated too many times. It’s a fundamental that can motivate a peak performance in the tournament shooting box. Shell by shell…target by target…this motivation tool is built on the range during training/practice. In my experienced opinion, grasping ...

Looking for X's in All the Wrong Places

Hello again…or maybe this is your first time here? Either way, I very much appreciate your stopping by. That you are here says you may be looking to improve your shooting? If that’s so let me begin by saying, most definitely, there are answers to your good questions. As all of us search for those answers…what’s better or best in our game…we might want to remember that there can be more than one consideration on the table. Here are a few of those considerations that can assist in finding the “best” answer.   Let’s look at a discussion on shooting methods…a common topic on shooting forums and rightfully so. Here’s ...
